Talking Tough To Talking Tender

Everything we do in life, our happiness, our relationships, our success, it all starts with how we
feel about ourselves. But what happens when we’re not loving ourselves? The truth is, many of
us struggle with this more than we realize.

One common sign of lacking self-love is negative self-talk. You might find yourself constantly
thinking, “I’m not good enough” or “I always mess up.” The solution? Practice self-compassion
by making thoughts with affirmations like, “I am enough just as I am,” or “I am growing every
day.” It’s about being kind to yourself, especially in moments when you’re feeling desperately
low.

Another challenge is comparing ourselves to others. Whether it’s social media or real-life
interactions, comparisons can make us feel inferior. Remember, everyone shows their highlight
reel. Put your focus on you, and your journey. In your phone (your notes app) for example,
every time something good happens, write it down. It’s wonderful for days of reflection.
For many years, myself, and many others neglect their own needs, overcommitting to others or
ignoring rest and hobbies. Setting boundaries and prioritizing self-care, like taking time for
activities you love, fuels your worth. If you take a dance class every Saturday at 9:00, keep that
time to yourself. That’s a boundary. Seeking external validation is also common, but true
self-love comes from internal awareness. Also, practice daily affirmations to remind yourself of
your value.

Remember, holding on to past mistakes or failures can block self-love. Forgive yourself, learn
from the past, and focus on the present. Celebrate your wins and progress, no matter how
minor.

Self-love isn’t a destination, it’s a journey. Be gentle with yourself, and start today with one small
act of kindness. Your future self will thank you.
